D.A.R.E. America is thrilled with the success of The D.A.R.E. Dance Program, an innovative venture in the effort to fight drugs and violence in our communities and schools.

In September of 1999, D.A.R.E. America hired a nation-wide director to lead the effort to bring dance, as an athletic, creative, fun, and healthy art form, to schools as a positive alternative to drugs and violence.

D.A.R.E. Dance falls under the umbrella of the  D.A.R.E. + P.L.U.S.

(Play and Learn Under Supervision) D.A.R.E.'s after-school effort.

 The D.A.R.E. Dance Program is hosted in over 75 schools in 24 cities nationwide with 4,000 students enrolled in long-term dance classes at their schools and over 80,000 students, school officials and family members viewing D.A.R.E. Dance assemblies each year.

In this venture students have the opportunity to learn many styles of dance; including African dance, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, modern, tap and more by professional adult and professional track teen dance companies.

Students involved in the program who show a strong interest in dance are encouraged to apply for a scholarship at a local studio for long-term study.

Scholarship students are then encouraged to return to D.A.R.E. Dance schools as teacher assistants in local dance programs.
